This page is being produced to show the works of Author Charles W. Sharp Jr. And to highlight his books at AuthorHouse Publications.

I published my first book “Being Black” At The Sharp Point in March 2004. This publication is an autobiography depicting my life as a child and teenager growing up in a small Western Pennsylvania town.

It also shows the strife and hard times my family went through as a family in the 1940s through 1960s. These were the times of civil unrest in the United States because of segregation, and the Vietnam War. Although the schools were not segregated at that time in Western Pennsylvania, the workplaces, and streets of this small town were definitely not pleasant for a Black man. Jobs were scarce and you had to take what you could get, most families had parents either working for Allegheny Ludlum Steel, Pittsburgh Plate Glass, or Alcoa Aluminum.

After getting out of school in 1963 I went into the US Army where I thought I would make a career. After getting shot twice in Vietnam in 1968, and again in 1969 I had to decide if this was the best choice for me as a father, and husband.

When you read my book, you will see the decisions I made about the army and my family. Also some good, and some bad choices I made after getting out of the army.

We all can attest to some bad decisions that not only impact your life, but also those around you. Especially your immediate family.

Luckily I woke up early enough to salvage what was left of my life.

My second book "A Walk On The Rough Side" is a fictional portrayal of a family living on the Northside of Pittsburgh fighting to get out of the projects and into a home in the suburbs. It will be available in stores in July 2008.

It shows the strife and hard times growing up in the ghetto and having to deal with daily confrotations with drug pushers, gangs and the prostitution in the community. The main character John is a 16 year old boy going to school and dealing with the local gang trying to recruit him as a drug pusher on the streets. His family is tossed into the main stream of this life after his Uncle is killed by the local drug lord for failure to pay for his drugs. A thrilling story about a family and their pursuits of happiness in a community destined for failure. Drugs, gangs, Mafia, and a Vietnam Vet who has finally had enough.

My books depict life on the steets and a want to have something better in life. This comes from getting an education, and helping yourself and your family get away from the negative aspects of the ghetto. I was raised on the streets of one of the most notorious cities in Western Pennsylvania. I spent time in the US Army, got my college education and worked as a banker, policeman, engineer and businessman to get my family out of this type of environment. I also served as a city councilman in South Carolina where I lived for over 27 years.

It only takes willpower and the steadfast determination that you can make a difference in your life and those around you. Be a doer not a talker. Education is the most important weapon we have in gaining control of our lives and getting away from the negative communities we do not have to live in.  Help your children and grandchildren get the education they deserve and you will see a change coming.
